You’ve received your coaching certification. You have your business foundations all set up. You’ve done your planning and you know who you serve and what you have to offer. You even have your coaching packages and pricing all set up.
So now what?
Now, you need to attract and enroll clients! Yes, you do not have a business unless you sell something, in this case you’re selling coaching packages to clients.
For many coaches, this is the hardest thing to do. Attracting your ideal client doesn’t need to be rocket science or a painful task.
There are two basic marketing philosophies.
- Inbound marketing – where you attract clients to you; where they seek you out and come TO you
- Outbound marketing – where you push stuff out there; cold calls; throwing spaghetti against the wall and seeing if it sticks; this is traditional marketing
Neither philosophy is better or worse than the other – both have their time and place.
Where to start? For now, let’s look at how to create a very simple marketing plan that is easy to follow and a joy to implement.
When I started out, I created a very simple one-page marketing plan that helped keep me focused. I call it the Marketing Wheel of Fortune – you can call it a PIE if you wish or circle or whatever but ultimately you can see everything in one big picture.
Take all the ways you think you might want to promote yourself – social media, networking, ads, speaking, email list, referrals, etc. and then add a slice for each one. Your slices can be all the same size or different sizes depending on where you are in your biz.
Then, choose 1 or at most 2 slices to focus on. Work those slices until you have them down pat and they are bringing in leads and clients. Once a slice is working like a well-oiled machine, THEN move onto adding another slice of the pie. DO not try to work on ALL slices at once or you will be overwhelmed and very little will work.
Take your 1 slice and write out a 90-day plan for it.
A marketing plan doesn’t need to be big or scary. It should be SIMPLE and easy to follow. Now of course the trick is to put it into ACTION and follow your plan.
